Attention, culture enthusiasts! You can now get a new map recently released by the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports detailing the representative intangible cultural heritage projects of twelve cities and counties along the Hainan Coastal Scenic Highway.
Making it easier for citizens, tourists, and heritage lovers of all stripes, it also lists tourist attractions that allow people to gain a more engaging and visual understanding of Hainan's intangible cultural heritage.
Intangible cultural heritage is the "shadow of national memory." Categorizing it into ten categories: folk literature, traditional music, traditional dance, traditional drama, quyi (a form of Chinese spoken art), traditional sports, games and acrobatics, traditional arts and crafts, traditional skills, traditional medicine, and folk customs, China’s State Council approved the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists in 2006.
From the county, provincial, and national level (such as the Qiong opera, fishing songs of the Tanka people, and puppet shows) up to UNESCO recognized items (like traditional Li textile techniques: spinning, dyeing, weaving, and embroidering), hundreds of intangible cultural heritage projects and tourist attractions are included on the map as part of a new attempt to promote, inherit, and utilize Hainan's intangible cultural heritage resources.
In recent years, many cities, cultural venues, and historical sites have launched a trend of building distinctive cultural brands by creating cultural and creative products. Through this map, the effective integration of "Intangible cultural heritage + tourism + industry" can be promoted, helping to establish a bridge of communication and exchange between inheritors and the public, and allowing cultural heritage to be seen and experienced by a wider audience.
The map provides people with basic information such as the names and addresses of intangible cultural heritage projects, as well as the levels, regions, and tourist attractions related to these projects in a concise, clear, and straight way.(By Zhang Chong)
