On January 23, "Li Style Brocade Cluster-Li Nationality Traditional Spinning, dyeing and Embroidery Skills Conservation Achievement Exhibition" was launched in Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Center (Hainan Provincial Cultural Museum, 1st floor, Exhibition hall). The exhibition will last until March 2, presenting an intangible cultural heritage feast for the audience, adding "intangible cultural heritage flavor" to the first "Intangible Cultural Heritage edition" Spring Festival.

The exhibition is hosted by China Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum and Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Film and Sports. They made an in-depth and systematic display of Li brocade technique from four aspects: historical context, technical characteristics, conservation practice and innovative development.

This exhibition, which was exhibited at the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum in Beijing in December 2024, is the "first show" after the traditional spinning, dyeing and embroidery skills of the Li ethnic group were successfully incorporated into the representative list of the intangible cultural Heritage of humanity. The exhibition "Returning Home" especially reflects the relevant content of Li brocade technology displayed in the global promotion activities of the Hainan Free Trade Port of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This exhibition not only exhibits the waist loom, cotton bow, yarn winder and other Li brocade weaving and embroidery tools, but also exhibits a number of Li brocade clothing in the five major dialect areas of Li, such as Sai dialect traditional women's clothing, Meifu dialect women's blouse, etc., to introduce the differences between different dialects of clothing for the audience. There was also a demonstration of the production of Li brocade clothing by non-genetic bearers, and a number of non-genetic bearers and indigenous Li weaving women demonstrated their spinning, dyeing, weaving and embroidery skills.

On the opening day, Liu Xianglan Studio, the national representative inheritor of the traditional spinning, dyeing and embroidery skills of the Li nationality, and Wang Shubao Studio, the national representative inheritor of the South China Sea Channel, were unveiled, which is the first batch of Hainan Cultural Master Studios set up by the Hainan Provincial Cultural Center (Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center), and the second batch of Hainan Cultural Master Studios are already under intense preparation. During the Spring Festival, Hainan Cultural Master Studio will continue to carry out Li traditional spinning, dyeing and weaving skills and Li dance performance activities, visitors can visit the museum.

The exhibition also displays a variety of innovative Li brocade cultural and creative products, Li brocade fashion clothing, showing Li brocade fresh vitality. They set up an interactive experience area, so that visitors can touch the texture of Li brocade with their own hands. In the form of graphic and physical exhibitions, they demonstrated the effectiveness of intangible cultural heritage protection in Hainan Province, such as "intangible cultural heritage into the campus", the inheritance and development of Li brocade skills in major universities, traditional craft workstations in cities and counties, and the protection of Li brocade in 9 cities and counties.

In October 2009, the traditional weaving, dyeing and embroidery skills of the Li ethnic group were included in the list of intangible cultural heritage in urgent need of protection by UNESCO. After 15 years of protection, inheritance and development, the work of traditional spinning, dyeing and embroidery of Li nationality has made remarkable achievements; In December 2024, after deliberation and adoption by the 19th regular session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, the traditional weaving, dyeing and embroidery skills of the Li ethnic group were transferred from the intangible Cultural Heritage List, which is in urgent need of protection, to the list of representative works of the intangible cultural Heritage of humanity.

Since 2009, in order to effectively protect Li brocade skills, Baoting, Baisha and Lingshui in our province have successively issued protection regulations. In addition, our province has issued laws and regulations such as the Provisions on the Protection of Intangible cultural Heritage in Hainan Province to provide legislative protection for intangible cultural heritage projects, including Li brocade technology. In recent years, Hainan has carried out a series of activities of "Splendid World Culture Week", and also built a design service platform for Li brocade designers to promote the creative transformation and innovative development of Li brocade skills.

The relevant person in charge of the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism and Culture, Radio, Television and Sports introduced that they will continue to increase the accumulation of protection practices of Li brocade skills, and constantly expand the application scope of innovation achievements, so that Hainan intangible cultural heritage will glow with new vitality and bloom new luster in the new era.
