Population

At the end of 2023, the permanent population of the province was 10.43 million, an increase of 160000 from the end of the previous year. The urbanization rate of the permanent population is 62.46%, an increase of 0.97 percentage points. In terms of gender composition, there are 5.54 million males and 4.89 million females. From the perspective of age structure, there are 2.05 million people aged 0-15, 6.64 million people aged 16-59, and 1.75 million people aged 60 and above.

Nationality

The Han, Li, Miao, and Hui ethnic groups in Hainan Province are permanent residents, while the other ethnic groups are cadres, workers, and immigrants who migrated after the establishment of the People's Republic of China and are scattered throughout the province. The Li ethnic group was the earliest inhabitants of Hainan Island. The Li, Miao, and Hui ethnic groups who have lived for generations mostly reside in the central and southern autonomous counties of Qiongzhong, Baoting, Baisha, Lingshui, Changjiang, Ledong, as well as Sanya City, Dongfang City, and Wuzhishan City; The Han population is mainly concentrated in the northeast, north, and coastal areas.
