Thanks to its pleasant climate year-round, consistent waves throughout the year, and relatively safe bay terrain, Houhai Bay, located in Haitang Bay, Sanya, has gradually become a gathering spot for surfing enthusiasts. Houhai has integrated tourism with sports, culture, and industry, giving rise to distinctive businesses such as surfing clubs, inns, and guesthouses.

Houhai is a pocket-shaped bay where waves roll in from the due east direction of Haikou, creating relatively gentle "baby waves". As a result, it is known as a surfing paradise more suitable for beginners. Many tourists choose to stay in seaside guesthouses, allowing them to head downstairs for a surf at any time.
