Four Leading Industries
Leveraging the policy advantages of the Hainan Free Trade Port and its unique natural endowments, the city has focused on developing four key industries: Tourism, Modern Services, Emerging Science and Technology Industry and High-tech Industry. Through the strategic layout of innovation chains and cultivation of industrial chains, Sanya has promoted a development model driven by leading enterprises, supported by industrial parks and underpinned by coordinated upstream and downstream collaboration — continually enhancing the competitiveness of its core industries.
Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City has attracted over 10,000 registered enterprises. Leading companies such as China National Seed Group and iFLYTEK have established operations here. Five national-level innovation platforms, including the Yazhou Bay National Laboratory, have been set up. More than 30 renowned universities and research institutions, including Zhejiang University and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, have settled in the area, accelerating breakthroughs in key technologies such as seed breeding and deep-sea innovation.

Sanya Central Business District has rapidly emerged as a dual trillion-yuan industrial cluster in modern finance and modern commerce. Anchored by headquarters economy, modern trade, financial services, and cruise and yacht tourism, and supported by professional services and cultural leisure, the district follows a dual strategy of "bringing in" and "going global."
Over the past five years, Sanya's actual use of foreign capital has grown at an average annual rate of over 35 percent. More than six billion yuan in taxes have been reduced or exempted for eligible enterprises and individuals, while over 560 million yuan in import duties have been waived.
