Wenchang city is located in the northeastern part of Hainan province, bordered by the sea on its east, south and north sides. It covers a total land area of 2,459.98 square kilometers and a sea area of 5,245 square kilometers.

Wenchang is known for its outstanding people and rich cultural heritage. More than 1.2 million Wenchang natives reside overseas across over 60 countries and regions. As the birthplace of Hainan's Minnan culture, Wenchang boasts deep cultural roots.

The city is rich in tourism resources, with 40 natural coastal bays, including the deep-water Mulan Port, and 43 islands scattered throughout its maritime territory.

Wenchang is home to a number of renowned scenic and cultural sites, including Tonggu Mountain, known as the "No.1 peak in eastern Hainan"; the fairyland-like Qizhou Archipelago; the Bamen Bay Hundred-mile Mangrove Forest, often called a "marine forest park"; the Confucius Temple with a history of over 600 years; Huiwen Shibahang village that has retained its layout for nearly 300 years; and Puqian Qilou Old Street, featuring arcade buildings from the Republic of China era. Wenchang is also home to China's largest open low-latitude coastal space launch site.

With a pleasant tropical climate and a beautiful ecological environment, Wenchang enjoys a frost-free climate year-round, an average annual temperature of 23.9 C, and evergreen vegetation in all seasons. The city is also renowned for its cuisine, especially its fresh seafood and signature local dishes. "Wenchang chicken" ranks first among Hainan's four most famous dishes, and "Wenchang coconut" has been awarded the agricultural geographical indication by China's Ministry of Agriculture.

Wenchang enjoys a distinct location advantage: it is just 60 kilometers from the provincial capital, Haikou, and only 40 km from Haikou Meilan International Airport.
