As of the end of 2024, Hainan hosts 9,979 foreign-funded enterprises, with 77.3 percent established after June 2020 when the master plan for the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port was unveiled. Investor origins have diversified globally, with companies from 174 countries and regions now operating in Hainan — a threefold increase since 2018. The province recorded 19.2 percent year-on-year growth in foreign enterprises in 2024, with actual utilized foreign capital entering China's top 10. Notably, 104 multinationals have established regional headquarters in Hainan, including 77 Fortune Global 500 companies.
