Since the island-wide special customs operations launched in the Hainan Free Trade Port on Dec 18, 2025, enterprises have been achieving more and discovering fresh opportunities thanks to Hainan FTP's beneficial policies.

A sharing session was held in Haikou on Jan 21, with representatives from various companies swapping notes — sharing their practices, insights and prospects for leveraging Hainan FTP's opportunities for openness and engaging in high-quality development.

Last year, Hainan Ausca International Oils and Grains Co Ltd made great progress in expanding its overseas markets, with its products successfully entering over 10 countries and regions, including Japan, South Korea and Singapore.

In all, the company recorded an annual import and export value of $825 million in foreign trade.

"The Hainan FTP provides us with a great platform, whether for the domestic or the international market," said company Chairman Zhang Hui.

During the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), the company's output value is projected to rise from 10 billion yuan ($1.44 billion) to 20-25 billion yuan.

Zhang said the company had saved about 300 million yuan in tariff costs, thanks to Hainan FTP's policy that exempts tariffs for products with no less than 30 percent of added value after processing to China's mainland.

Elsewhere, Hainan FTP's one-stop aircraft maintenance base in Haikou has become a globally recognized "aircraft 4S shop" by numerous airlines.

To date, the base has completed maintenance on over 2,400 aircraft and provided full-body painting services for more than 300 aircraft, meeting the service needs of over 20 international airlines.

Long Wentao, business development director of Hainan Haidao Airport Industry Development Group Co Ltd, said its costs had been further reduced because the range of items of duty-free aviation materials had significantly increased after the launch of special customs operations.

The base plans to focus on developing the aircraft dismantling industry chain in the future, expanding high value-added maintenance services, as well as building a shared platform for the aviation materials trade. It also plans to deepen partnerships with regions such as Southeast Asia and Oceania, aiming to establish a regional center for aviation maintenance and support.

Meanwhile, Jia Green Chocolate Works (Hainan) Co Ltd, a Haikou-based enterprise funded by overseas Chinese, is building a health-focused chocolate brand.

General manager Meng Weiwei said, after the launch of special customs operations, simplified import processes for raw materials and reduced costs had allowed the company to concentrate more on product development and brand building.

Meng added that its Hainan special chocolate series had received overwhelming market response, with orders worth more than 30 million yuan to date.

In the eight years since its establishment in Hainan, Datang Hainan Energy Development Co Ltd has constructed a diversified clean energy system.

Power projects in the cities of Haikou and Wanning, each with a capacity of millions of kilowatts, have been completed and put into operation, becoming key power sources for the northern and eastern part of Hainan province.

Zhang Junbao, general manager of the company, said the company would increase its research and development investments to build Hainan's first "5G+" smart power plant.

Another conference participant, Hainan Flyer Science and Technology Co Ltd, started as a three-person team. Now it has expanded into a technology enterprise covering the air, sea and submarine sectors, with over 80 patents and software copyrights.

Its products are exported to regions such as the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Company founder Chen Yun said, the zero-tariff policy of Hainan's FTP helps reduce the costs of importing R&D equipment.

"For example, we saved about 60,000 yuan in tax fees on a 3D printer worth over 410,000 yuan, allowing more funds to be invested in R&D and innovation," Chen added.

The special customs operations in the Hainan FTP have not only created a favorable innovation system for the region's businesses, but have also provided strong support for exploring domestic and international markets and participating in global competition, Chen concluded.
