The Hainan Province Insurance Service Standards for Foreign Nationals Residing in China has been officially published and will come into effect on Oct 1. As the first dedicated standard in the financial sector of the Hainan Free Trade Port specifically addressing insurance services for foreign nationals in China, this marks a major step forward in the Hainan FTP's efforts to promote the standardization and internationalization of foreign-related financial services.
Tailored to meet the specific needs of the Hainan FTP, the standards cover key stages of the entire insurance service process, including application, maintenance and claims. They set out specific technical requirements for foreign-related service counters, payments and collection procedures, data security and privacy protection, among other areas, providing foreign nationals with an efficient and convenient support system for working, living and traveling in Hainan.
To further align with international practices, insurance institutions in Hainan are now accelerating the rollout of customized insurance products for foreign nationals. For example, the Hainan Branch of People's Insurance Company of China has launched cross-border insurance products such as business and travel insurance for inbound travelers — covering personal safety, trip changes and protection of personal belongings.
Overall, these products provide comprehensive insurance services for foreign nationals coming to China for business, tourism, study or their long-term residence.
