Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences — known for short as BiUH — is an internationally innovative institution.

It was established through a watershed collaboration between Hochschule Bielefeld – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSBI) in Germany and Chinese authorities.

Founded with approval from China's Ministry of Education and support from the Hainan provincial and Danzhou municipal governments and Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), BiUH is widely known as a landmark in Sino-German educational cooperation.

As the first foreign-established university in the Hainan Free Trade Port offering programs in science, engineering, agriculture and medicine, BiUH is also China's first higher education institution being operated by a German public university.

Located in the Yangpu Economic Development Zone in the city of Danzhou, the campus embodies the unique "work-integrated" University-Industry Collaborative Talent Training Model — combining advanced German educational philosophy with Chinese educational traditions to create a bridge between students and businesses.

By doing so it's expected to contribute significantly to the Hainan Free Trade Port's development and broader global economic advancement.
