The 35th ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup kicked off with a bang on Feb 4 at the Haikou Wuyuanhe Sport Center in Haikou, capital city of China's Hainan province.
Set to run through Feb 8, the event has become a focus of global attention — galvanizing Hainan's cultural and tourism consumption market, while boosting the integrated development of the local culture-sports-tourism sectors.
As Asia's highest-level individual table tennis tournament, the Asian Cup features both men's and women's singles matches. During the five-day event, some 64 elite players from across the region will engage in 128 hard-fought battles.
Given its status as a qualification pathway for the ITTF World Cup, the competitive intensity of the tournament has drawn significant interest from the international sporting community.
The event marks the first time the Asian Cup has been held in Haikou. It is also the first major international sporting competition hosted by the province since the launch of island-wide special customs operations in the Hainan FTP on Dec 18, 2025.
Overall, the hosting of the extravaganza is set to serve as a crucial window to demonstrate Haikou's urban vitality and to release its consumption potential.
It is widely believed that the event will provide powerful impetus for Hainan's strategic goal of building an international tourism and consumption center — effectively blending world-class sports with regional economic growth.
