The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Asia-Pacific Regional Cooperation Roundtable convened on Sept 15 in Haikou, capital of Hainan province, focusing on the theme of the Digital Economy and Global Governance Innovations in the AI Era.

Delegates and experts held extensive discussions on the deep impact of artificial intelligence on Asian economic integration, technological equity, and regional AI governance frameworks.

Addressing the challenges of digital sovereignty and technological divides, participants put forward innovative concepts such as "Digital Continuity" — advocating AI services should remain accessible without arbitrary restrictions, except under strictly defined exceptional circumstances.

Furthermore, discussions highlighted the urgency of "AI for All" to ensure equal technological access across diverse socioeconomic groups. That's also a visionary proposal of "AI Passports" to streamline cross-border technological deployment and standards.

By pioneering these practical governance mechanisms, the roundtable aimed to harness the transformative potential of AI to boost regional economic integration, bridge development gaps and build a more inclusive, resilient and connected Asia-Pacific community.
