Haikou's growing semiconductor sector adds a new player

Yixincun (Hainan) Technology Co Ltd, the memory chip research and development arm of YiMoon Technology Co Ltd, recently established operations in the Haikou Integrated Free Trade Zone in Haikou, capital of China's southernmost Hainan province.

The Haikou company will focus on customized R&D of NAND and DRAM memory chips, solution delivery and related business for global markets.

Founded in 2020, YiMoon Technology is headquartered in Chengdu, Sichuan province, with its R&D headquarters in Shanghai and branches in Shenzhen in Guangdong province, Qingdao in Shandong province, and Hong Kong. The company focuses on chip design and solution development for automotive electronics and AIoT applications.

YiMoon Technology said Haikou's role as a gateway connecting China's industrial capabilities with global markets was a key factor in its decision to establish its memory chip R&D operations there.

By leveraging Hainan Free Trade Port's policy advantages, the Haikou company will focus on memory chip R&D, solution delivery, overseas customer development and cross-border supply chain operations, exploring a business model that combines R&D in Haikou with global markets.

The Hainan Free Trade Port's policy advantages and open industrial environment were also important factors in the decision. Preferential policies in areas such as taxation, cross-border investment and financing, and bonded repair are making it easier for semiconductor companies to conduct R&D, expand cross-border operations and reach overseas markets.

Haikou is now home to 43 semiconductor-related companies, including 12 above-designated-size enterprises. Its semiconductor industry chain covers chip design, packaging and testing, finished-product manufacturing and bonded repair. The sector recorded an output value of 1.375 billion yuan ($204.51 million) in the first half of this year.

The arrival of Yixincun will further strengthen Haikou's semiconductor ecosystem, particularly in the memory chip segment.

From chip design and advanced packaging and testing to bonded repair and cross-border trade, Haikou is developing a distinctive semiconductor ecosystem and leveraging the Hainan FTP's openness to help companies reach Southeast Asia and other overseas markets.
