Hainan, located in the southernmost tip of China, is the country's sole tropical island province. Thanks to its unique ecological environment, and rich tropical agricultural resources, it provides a good foundation for high-efficiency tropical agriculture.

Hainan is positioned as China's main production hub for exotic and premium tropical agricultural products. The Window of World Tropical Fruits, a fruit planting base in Qionghai, a county-level city in Hainan, has brought in more than 500 varieties of exotic tropical fruits from across the globe. It has to date successfully cultivated more than 300 varieties — including yellow pitaya, custard apple and finger lemon.

The province is developing the entire industry chains in 17 sectors, namely rice, winter melons and vegetables, natural rubber, areca nut, sugarcane, pepper, coffee, mango, lychee, pitaya, pineapple, honeydew melon, durian, tea, seed breeding, Wenchang chicken, and aquaculture.

Hainan has developed many well-known provincial agricultural product brands. At present, Hainan boasts 10 provincial-level regional shared brands for agricultural products cultivated on the island, namely mango, wax apple, pitaya, coffee, pepper, sweet potato, honeydew melon, lychee, black pork, and rice.

Seed industry

Hainan focuses on seed breeding and production, promotes the cultivation of aquatic seedlings and local livestock and poultry breeds, and actively engages in seed trading.

Planting and husbandry

Hainan vigorously cultivates tropical crops and fruits, develops vegetable farming, raises local livestock and poultry, advances modern fisheries, and grows tropical flowers and seedlings.

Processing

Hainan specializes in processing local agricultural products and imported raw materials to increase added value and market competitiveness.

Recreational agriculture (fishing)

Hainan develops recreational fisheries and shared farms to enrich the leisure and entertainment functions of agriculture.

Agricultural services

Hainan provides agricultural socialization services and agricultural science and technology support to promote modern agricultural development and innovation.
