This guide provides essential information to Chinese citizens who are permanent residents of the Hong Kong or Macao Special Administrative Region on applying for approval to practice law in the Chinese mainland.
Basic requirements
Applicants shall satisfy the following conditions:
1. Support the Constitution of the People's Republic of China;
2. Be a Chinese citizen who is a permanent resident of Hong Kong or Macao;
3. Have obtained the Legal Professional Qualification Certificate of the People's Republic of China;
4. Have completed a one-year internship at a law firm in the Chinese mainland and have passed the internship assessment;
5. Be of good character.
Required materials
1. Registration form for Chinese citizens who are permanent residents of Hong Kong or Macao applying to practice law in the Chinese mainland;
2. Identity documents (including the permanent identity card of the Hong Kong or Macao Special Administrative Region, Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents, or passport of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or Macao Special Administrative Region);
3. Statement on whether the applicant holds legal professional qualifications in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan or in a foreign jurisdiction and whether the applicant is employed by a law firm in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan or in a foreign jurisdiction;
4. Certificate confirming no criminal punishment;
5. Legal Professional Qualification Certificate of the People's Republic of China;
6. Internship assessment certificate issued by the bar association;
7. Identification photograph.
