Guide to application for recognition of qualifications as Chinese mainland physician for physicians from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan

This guide provides essential information to physicians from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan on applying for recognition of qualifications as Chinese mainland physician.

Basic requirements
Applicants shall hold either an Approval Certificate for Establishment of Medical Institutions or an Acknowledgement Receipt for Record Filing of Establishment of Medical Institutions.

Chinese citizens who are permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or the Macao Special Administrative Region and who satisfy the following conditions, and comply with the provisions of the Law of the People's Republic of China on Medical Practitioners and relevant regulations, may apply for recognition of qualifications as Chinese mainland physician.

Applicants shall be permanent residents of Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan who have already obtained lawful medical practicing qualifications in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region or the Taiwan region for at least five years as of Dec 31, 2007.

Applicants shall hold specialist physician qualification certificates issued in Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan and shall be practicing in medical institutions in Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan.

The categories of Chinese mainland physician qualifications available for applications include clinical medicine, traditional Chinese medicine (including traditional Chinese medicine, ethnic medicine and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine) and stomatology.

Required materials
1. Application and review form for recognition of qualifications as Chinese mainland physician for physicians from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Macao Special Administrative Region;
2. Recent front-facing, bareheaded half-length photograph taken within the past six months;
3. Identification documents;
4. Certificate of academic qualifications in medicine;
5. Practicing license or certificate of entitlement to practice medicine;
6. Physician license or specialist physician qualification certificate;
7. Employment certificate or practice registration certificate;
8. Certificate confirming no record of improper professional conduct during the practice period;
9. Certificate of no criminal record;
10. Letter of recommendation.
