Sanya launches foreign currency exchange machine in shopping mall

Foreign tourists visiting Sanya, Hainan province can now exchange foreign currency directly at Sanya Joy City. The city unveiled a dedicated foreign currency exchange service zone at the mall on April 17.

The service zone is a collaborative effort between Sanya Joy City and the Sanya Branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC). The exchange machine supports nine major currencies, including the British pound, Hong Kong dollar, US dollar, Singapore dollar, Japanese yen, Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, euro and New Zealand dollar. Each individual can exchange up to 5,000 yuan ($694.06) per day.

Designed with convenience, security and efficiency in mind, the machine integrates ICBC's global clearing network and real-time risk control system. With just a passport, international visitors can quickly exchange commonly used denominations of foreign currencies at real-time exchange rates, significantly streamlining the process compared to traditional bank counters.

Notably, the service zone also features a combined foreign currency deposit and withdrawal machine that supports international cards such as VISA and Mastercard. Tourists can withdraw up to 20,000 yuan per day in local currency, catering to a wide range of spending needs.

Since its opening, nearly 20 percent of the mall's total transactions have come from international cardholders. The introduction of the machine is expected to further unlock the spending potential of overseas visitors.
